The Dark Angel.

Jesus wasn’t white. Neither was Mary. Yet whiteness dominates Renaissance and Classical art pieces as a form of erasure of diverse imagery. While these art forms don’t originate from non-white countries, the subjects of matter are visually colonized and thus politicizing the body and skin at the intersection of art and history. This project aims to reclaim imagery that rightfully belongs to BIPOC, specifically the European portrayal of biblical figures. There there is softness to darker skin. There is culture and there is history to darker skin. Erasure will no longer be tolerated.
