“The past is never dead. It’s not even past.”

William Faulkner

Tasked with exploring how cities might be designed to achieve social justice, my team and I have compiled a centralized map that aims to contextualize the history of urban planning in the neighborhood of San Juan Hill and its surrounding blocks.

Our research aims to inform and educate, focusing on the people, institutions, and significant musical context of the area that may no longer appear on a map, but still heavily inform our current reality and the Lincoln Square neighborhood’s trajectory as a member of a smart city striving for social justice. To our Fordham Lincoln Center community and to the neighborhood we call a second home: We hope this project captures, for better and for worse, the history of San Juan Hill that remains inseparable from the identity of Lincoln Square.
